Gotta feel bad for Garp. He was a Navy soldier his whole life. Serving in the navy must have been his pride and joy. But his son decided to run an organization directly opposed to the world government. Dragon had Luffy and he listened to the request of a dying king and saved his only son from suffering the same fate as him. So he effectively had a second chance with Luffy and Ace to nudge them in the right direction. However, they both ended up as pirates. Enemies of the navy. Nevertheless, he loves them. Even though it's his job to kill them.
